Should i use www or not for my ecommerce store

To www or not to www that is the question or to make it a little more contemporary…

Ooh na na, what’s my name
Ooh na na, what’s my name
Ooh na na, what’s my name…

If you already have a website www.example.com and you want to drop the www and simply have example.com show everywhere on the internet.

Step1: apply a 301 redirect from www.example.com to example.com this will redirect any old links that may be using the www.example.com and will tell google to permanently redirect to example.com

Step2: Access google webmasters and set your preferred format so Google knows which one to use. You might just have www.example.com setup in google webmasters – if you attempt to set the preferred domain to example.com you’ll get a message informing you that you need to verify the site. Don’t panic this part is easy. Simply add a example.com to google webmasters as a new site and then go back in to set your preference.

If you want to go from example.com to www.example.com then just do the opposite of the steps outlined above!
